Thank you for all the positive messages of support we’ve had this week following the news that all public subsidy is due to be removed from April. This funding helps us pay city centre rent on a large, unique and iconic space and allows us to screen a diverse selection of films and documentaries from emerging British talent to the best of World Cinema. We’re a refreshing alternative to the multiplexes, expanding the culture on offer to the city and offering affordable ticket prices to our audiences.

Our varied programme opens up the wider world to our audiences, increasing awareness and understanding of other cultures, stories and experiences. Our shared space, friendly environment and activities integrate ages, social backgrounds and cultures like no other in the city. Older audiences mix happily alongside film students and musicians, all equally belonging and sharing experiences. Local artists exhibit here, charity and craft groups meet here, we’re a community where you are among friends.

We are determined, with your help, to continue to provide an independent cinema programme and vibrant cultural destination. We are pushing forward with our long term business, sponsorship and audience development plan, but as these cuts are taking place soon, we’d like to show you how you can help immediately this summer, and enjoy our venue at the same time:

*Attend a free event and buy a drink
These events range from Jazz in the Courtyard (this Sunday) to Laugh House at Light House (30th July) to Language Cafés (most weekdays). Or just pop down for a relaxing glass or bottle of wine and a sandwich in the sunny courtyard.

*Join the Party
We have a fantastic late-night party with courtyard dancefloor next Saturday 25th July, including a screening of ‘Amy’ for £10. Fill the dancefloor, celebrate our venue and show our city what a great place we’ve got! Bar open until 2am.

*Buy a Poster
Our poster fundraiser is back on Thursday 30th July from 4pm – 8pm. For a £5 donation, choose a cinema poster from our collection of thousands of titles, before joining us in the bar for our new material comedy night.

*Try something new
Try a film genre you wouldn’t normally see, or come to a Thinema screening. We have The Merchant of Venice and Othello soon, through to Of Mice and Men and The Importance of Being Earnest in the autumn. Savings on films can be made by attending a midweek matinee or Sunday screening.

We will keep you updated on our vital fundraising efforts from now on, through print, social media and the website , www.light.house.co.uk @lighthousemedia
Please spread the word – word of mouth and community action is powerful.
