Stepping into a huge, glass covered courtyard event managers immediately see the potential of this quirky space, which is the hub of culture for the city and houses the only independent cinema in The Black Country. Events have ranged from the annual Deaffest Festival to Americana style and music fairs, Health Conferences, Sci Fi Days, Proms, Film Premieres and Car Launches to Barn Dances, Political conferences, Award ceremonies, Religious celebrations and Charity Fundraisers. The large, indoor cobbled courtyard is both modern and quirky, filled with sunlight during summer days and atmospheric lit by candles or festoon lighting in the evenings.

An indoor cobbled atrium with an impressive high glassed roof. Available for hire between April and October due to weather, however we have hosted large scale Halloween parties where event managers have used their imaginations to create indoor marquee areas. Our courtyard cafe tables and chairs can be lit with tea lights for a very special ambience once the light starts to fade.
For live music and dance events, we can hire dancefloors, staging and PA systems. For standing party events, we would normally allow up to 300-400 guests, however teamed with the gallery and bar, there is potential for more by arrangement. Seating and tables can be hired by clients for dining / seated events with a guide capacity of 150 depending on layout.Please note that security must be booked for parties over over 70 people – costs available on request.

Lock Works Café Bar
Our funky, versatile bar serves a good range of sandwiches, salads, potatoes, cakes and hot and cold drinks, plus a wide selection of wines, ciders, beers and spirits. It holds the maximum food hygiene certification of 5. We can supply buffets and nibbles for events, and have close links with specialist pop up suppliers of curry, crepes and Italian deli food for a Street Food Experience.
Alternatively you can supply your own buffet, however there is no facility for heating food on site.
The bar can be hired for parties, where you can use our PA system for your own disco playlist, and it is ideal for spoken word and acoustic music events such as album launches and book / poetry readings. Lock Works is ideal for a break out space for conferences, and has a screen and projection facilities. Lock Works seats 30 – 70 (with doors open to courtyard) and up to 70 standing for drinks receptions.
Our main ground floor auditorium holds 240 seated guests plus wheelchair spaces. There is adjustable staging, making it ideal for conferences and live comedy or talks. Our cinema manager Jas Kapur is an expert in the field of sound and vision and is an authority on the use of projection, satellite screenings and event presentation. The cinema is fully digital with impressive sound, with the capacity to show 35mm film for special film events. We have good sound facilities with a range of technical resources for additional hire.

Our 1st floor cinema has the feel of a private screening cinema, with 67 seats plus facility for some wheelchairs. Wheelchair access is via a lift to our balcony area and box office staff will help with any requests for access.

This is a versatile space which can be used for artists to hire on a monthly basis, or for private use for events, talks and classes (exhibitions permitting!) It has good acoustics and has been widely used for drinks receptions, poetry nights and talks. The gallery has hosted a wide range of exhibitions from video installations to photography. It can seat around 30 people, or around 50 standing.
During the spring and summer months, our iconic balcony is used for exhibitions and drinks receptions. It overlooks the atrium and has fantastic architecture. It has been used for various events including shooting a music video and an afternoon of ‘Las Vegas Chapel’ Elvis weddings! The area holds around 30 people seated, or up to 50 for a standing event.
The Production Office
Our first floor meeting room is ideal for team meetings of up to 15 people. It is lined with film books and magazines through the decades, so has a real feel of a production office, rather than an oak-walled boardroom! Great for break out sessions, meetings, small seminars and courses. For meetings in this room, we can serve break drinks in the space outside or on the balcony.
